Oumar Keita is a 6’8 freshman who has an unbelievable basketball IQ and a mature approach to the game. Keita recently moved from the class of 2018 to the 2017 class. Currently playing his high school ball at Cordia High School in Hazard, Kentucky. The 13 year old big man has a remarkable skill set that he brought to the John Lucas Middle School Combine in Houston and Jr All American Camp in Atlanta. Keita passes very well out of the post and does a great job organizing his team in half court sets. He hits the boards hard and does a great job sending outlet passes downcourt to streaking teammates. While Oumar does most of his work with his back to the basket, he has the ability to knock down mid range jumpers and occasionally steps out behind the three point line.
While many young players want to dunk the ball every time they are near the rim, Keita would rather play a style of hoops that emphasizes movement off the ball and playing team basketball. Keita can throw the ball down with ease, but he usually opts to lay the ball up and get back on defense. Definitely a rarity in today’s youth basketball culture. He patterns his game after Pau Gasol and prides himself on playing basketball the right way. For the time being Oumar Keita is one of the big men to watch in the class of 2017. Always a fan favorite, because of his approach to the game, Keita will surely leave his mark on anyone who gets the chance to watch him play.
