Isaiah Hicks puts on show at HighSchoolOT Holiday Invitational

JF Webb out of Oxford,NC came into the HighSchoolOT Holiday Invitational as the top ranked team in North Carolina. Unfortunately for them, they walked away with two upset losses to Word of God and High Point Christian, but the L’s weren’t indicative of the play of UNC bound Isaiah Hicks.

The front runner for North Carolina’s Mr. Basketball award, Hicks has taken his game to that of a McDonald’s All-American. He’s become a dominant defensive presence, both as a shot-blocker and a rebounder. Offensively, the Garner Road AAU alum has expanded his game out o the perimeter. He showed comfort shooting the rock out to the college three, a turnaround jumper out of the post, and ability to take slower bigs off of the bounce(especially going right). We would have loved to see him spend a little more time closer to the rim offensively, but to Hicks defense, he was going up strong anytime he got it in the paint.

It’s going to be interesting to track to evolution of Isaiah Hicks offensive game over the next few years. Will he develop into a small forward like some project, or will play a similar role to that of current UNC face up four James McAdoo. Only time will tell, but fans in Chapel Hill will be eagerly awaiting Hicks arrival on campus to help the struggling Tar Heels.
